If there is one thing we all should have learned in these last few years is to stay as fucking SKEPTICAL as possible of everything, at every turn and every corner.
Blind faith is the last thing any of us should give to anyone. It's become increasingly easier and easier for us to find our own information, whether through Wikipedia, the Library of Congress, or just about any archived source on the world-wide internets.
Skeptic Magazine has been a staple to my intelligence diet, and I suggest everyone at least subscribe to their e-newsletter, even if you don't sub to their print magazine.
Or help celebrate Chuck D's bday this year and subscribe to the
Skepticality Podcast and maybe buy those books you've been thinking about such as
The God Delusion (Richard Dawkins),
How To Debate A Creationist (Dr. Michael Shermer) or one of the many books by
James Randi.
Also, Dr. Michael Shermer is hosting the 2nd of 2007's series "Skeptic Magazine Caltech Lecture Series" this coming Sunday:
Dr. Randel Helms
The Bible Against Itself:
Who Wrote the Bible & Why it was Written
Before the sacred authors were declared sacred, they were fair game for attack or revision. If you open up the Bible and read it straight through, you will notice two things that should not be true if it had been written as a coherent whole and with a single purpose. First, the Bible is quite repetitious; second, the Bible frequently seems to contradict itself. Readers have often ignored these contradictions, apologists have long tried to reconcile them, and critics revel in them.
Event Date: February 18, 2007 at 2:00 pm
Location: Baxter Lecture Hall
Speaker: Dr. Randel Helms(pictured below are my hero's of skepticism..see how many you can name!)
